While his older brother Jason has ridden off into the sunset that is retirement, Travis Kelce not only signed a contract extension this offseason but is ready for an increased workload.

Speaking to reporters earlier this week, a zealous Travis Kelce accidentally made a double entendre when describing how much he’s ready to contribute to the Kansas City Chiefs’ offense this year.

“Wear and tear me, baby. I’m ready for it, man. Put the load on me,” Kelce told reporters at the Kansas City Chiefs minicamp earlier this week.

Kelce, who will turn 35 years old in October, is coming off a season in which he played in 15 games and caught 93 passes for 984 yards and five touchdowns. Kelce’s 2023 yards total of 984 was second in the league behind only George Kittle’s 1,020 yards.

This season, Kelce, Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid and the rest of the Kansas City Chiefs will be aiming to become the first team in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowl titles.

Despite his age, the Chiefs are certainly going to be leaning on Kelce this year as the rest of their offensive weapons are largely unproven. While Kansas City did sign veteran pass catcher Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, he’s had just one 1,000-yard season in his five-year career.

The Chiefs also drafted University of Texas speedster Xavier Worthy in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. There are questions surrounding the future of last year’s rookie breakout Rashee Rice, however, as the 24-year-old has had numerous legal issues during the offseason.

As the defending Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs will host the first game of the 2024 NFL season when they take on the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday, September 5.
